You send us a soil sample, we tell you what's in it
Using cutting-edge soil microscopy, we can determine your soil health from a microscopic level. We measure microbial populations and key soil health indicators like the Fungal-to-Bacterial Biomass Ratio as well as beneficial soil microorganism populations like flagellates, amoebae, and nematodes, which play a big role in nutrient cycling. Based on your results, we'll recommend the right interventions to help your plants thrive.
How does it work?
Simply take a sample from your soil or compost pile according to these standardized instructions, and send it over! We'll take care of the rest.
Once we have your soil sample, we'll analyze it under the microscope to give you an understanding of what types of microorganisms are present in what quantities. Each crop requires a specific microbiome, and we'll help you tailor your soil to your crops to ensure they outcompete weeds and fend off pests and diseases like healthy plants should!
Learn about your soil
Healthy plants start with healthy soil. Get to know what's really in your soil with our holistic scientific approach. The first step in helping your plants thrive is understanding your soil at a foundational level. That means quantifying your soil microbiome. Start with a single test to determine your baseline, or save on a soil testing bundle with multiple tests to track your own progress on your soil health journey!
Soil Health Consultation
Are you a farmer or gardener transitioning from chemical to organic? We help you go beyond organic by harnessing the power of your soil microbiome.
With time-tested techniques and cutting edge science, we supercharge your plants through the power of the soil microbiome.
Most farms see immediate drastic improvements in the first growing season, but we'll stick with you even if it takes longer to ensure a profitable operation with thriving plants in harmony with your local ecosystem.
The Power of Fungi
The Fungal-to-Bacterial Biomass Ratio is one of the key soil health indicators we give you in our soil and compost microbiome tests. This one number tells us a lot about your soil, specifically what stage of plant succession it's in. Most conventional farm soils fall within the 0-0.3 range, while 1:1 is preferred for vegetables and row crops, 10:1 for fruit trees, and up to 10,000:1 for old-growth forests! By harnessing the power of fungi, you can make your soil the perfect environment to grow your desired plants, while making it completely inhospitable to weeds.
Our Mission
Mycoscope was created to help farmers, gardeners, and even lawn mowers move away from the conventional systems that rely heavily on chemical inputs like fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. We believe in using cutting-edge microbiology in conjunction with time-tested agricultural traditions to shift away from chemicals and help our plants truly thrive, increasing their natural defenses, nutrient density, and ultimately our own human health. With every grower who transitions to sustainable, regenerative methods, we take one step towards a sustainable future with a habitable planet and abundance for all.
